M6 Mark II: Announced 8/28/2019 $849.99 for body only, $1099.00 for EF-M 15-45mm f3.5-6.3 IS STM and EVF-DC2 kit and $1349.00 for EF-M 18-150mm f3.5-6.3 IS STM and EVF-DC2 kit* As of May 1, 2020 the body is $799. I recommend this body over all other M cameras.

M50: Announced 2/26/18

CanonM50Small

Price history: 3/23/18 $899.99 with the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. 4/2019 It’s been $650 for several months now and is a great bargain.

M100: Announced on 8/29/17

M100

Price history: 8/29/17 $599.99 with the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM

Buy or wait? Announced in Aug 2017, available in October 2017 so BUY if you can live without a builtin viewfinder. However, a new M50 is a better value. I don’t like the 15-45 much compared to the 18-55. Collapsing and Expanding the lens to put away or shoot is an unnecessary chore. The metal lens mount on the 18-55 feels better too.

M6: Announced 2/15/17 at $779

8/25/17 bandh NA Amazon $429 from Adorama

Buy or wait? The M3 was just Discontinued on ? selling at $479 so consider the M6.

8/25/17 Note the body only is only $260-$360 on eBay and $348 directly from Canon refurbished, however, a new M50 is a better value.

M10: Announced 10/13/15 at $??

m10
3/15/17 bandh Amazon $599 with a 15-45. 3/25/17 Only $449 now! Still, I’d recommend the M3 over the M10. 8/25/17 $449 bandh.

Buy or wait? Cautious. This is the oldest M camera in the line and a discounted M3 or new M6 would be a better value. A new M20 is due out 4th quarter 2017

M100, M3, M5, M6, or M50?

The line up is a bit confusing since the M50 is the best camera in this line. The UI is superior as is the articulating screen and cropped 4K.  The M line only needs an entry level M100 at $450 and advanced amateur M50 at $650 in their line up. The M5 and M6 just seem redundant. With only $200 separating the entry level from advanced amateur, more choices just confuse the consumer.

Discontinued M cameras:

M1 announced on 7/23/2012 and discontinued on ???. I don’t recommend buying a used one since the a used M3, M5, M6 are all worth the extra money.

M2 released on 12/3/2013 but not available in the US. Discontinued on ??? I don’t recommend buying a used one since the a used M3, M5, M6 are all worth the extra money.

M3 released on and discontinued on ?? I recommend buying a used one if you can live without a built in viewfinder, fast AF, fast shot to shot times. If you can’t, then buy an M50. A used M3 will be the best bargain in photography if you can find one with little to no wear for less than $200. They were only $479 new so pay only $200 or less for a used one in good shape. However, a new or used M50 is a better value since the camera is far superior.
